The records business email needs

DNS records for business email
RecordTypeWhat it does
MXMXSays which servers receive your mail.
SPFTXTLists who may send as your domain. Exactly one per domain.
DKIMTXT or CNAMEPublishes the key that signs your mail.
DMARCTXT, at _dmarcTells receivers what to do with mail that fails the checks.

Your email provider gives you the exact name and value for each one. On GINbox they are on the DNS tab of your domain in the admin panel, each with a copy button, and the tab checks every record until it is right.

Adding a record at Hostinger

  1. Open the Hostinger dashboard. In the left sidebar choose Domains, then DNS.
  2. Select your domain. You land on its DNS records page.
  3. Under Manage DNS records, choose the type (MX, or TXT for SPF, DKIM and DMARC), and enter the name, the content (value), the TTL and, for MX, the priority.
  4. Click Add Record. Hostinger can also add several records at once.
  5. To change an existing record (for example your SPF record), find it in the list below, edit it and click Update.

Steps from Hostinger’s own help page, How to manage DNS records at Hostinger, checked on 30 October 2026.

Hostinger lists only domains that use its nameservers. If your domain points to other nameservers, change the records where those nameservers are managed. Hostinger says to allow up to 24 hours for changes.

Three things to get right

  • One SPF record only. If one already exists (it starts with v=spf1), edit it to include the new provider instead of adding a second. Two SPF records make SPF fail for both.
  • Change MX last. Add SPF, DKIM and DMARC first, move your old mail, then switch the MX records. See how to change MX records without losing mail.
  • Copy names exactly. Hosts add your domain to the name for you: enter _dmarc, not _dmarc.yourcompany.in, unless the host asks for the full name.

Questions people ask

Where is the DNS zone editor in Hostinger?

In the Hostinger dashboard: Domains in the left sidebar, then DNS, then your domain.

Hostinger already has an SPF record for its email. What do I do?

Edit that record to include your new provider (or replace it, if you no longer use Hostinger’s email). Never add a second SPF record.

Can I keep my website at Hostinger and email elsewhere?

Yes. Email uses only the MX and TXT records; your website’s A or CNAME records stay as they are.
