The records business email needs

DNS records for business email
RecordTypeWhat it does
MXMXSays which servers receive your mail.
SPFTXTLists who may send as your domain. Exactly one per domain.
DKIMTXT or CNAMEPublishes the key that signs your mail.
DMARCTXT, at _dmarcTells receivers what to do with mail that fails the checks.

Your email provider gives you the exact name and value for each one. On GINbox they are on the DNS tab of your domain in the admin panel, each with a copy button, and the tab checks every record until it is right.

Adding a record at GoDaddy

  1. Sign in to your GoDaddy Domain Portfolio and select your domain to open Domain Settings.
  2. Select DNS to see your DNS records.
  3. Select Add New Record, then choose the type: MX for mail servers, TXT for SPF, DKIM and DMARC (CNAME if your provider gives a CNAME for DKIM).
  4. Name: enter @ for the domain itself, or the prefix your provider gives (for example _dmarc). Value: paste it exactly. For MX, also enter the Priority.
  5. Use Add More Records to add several at once, then select Save (or Save All Records).
  6. If your domain has Domain Protection, GoDaddy asks for a verification code before saving.

Steps from GoDaddy’s own help page, Add an MX record, checked on 30 October 2026.

GoDaddy says most DNS changes take effect within an hour, and can take up to 48 hours everywhere. A TXT value can be up to 1,024 characters there, so a long DKIM key fits in one box.

Three things to get right

  • One SPF record only. If one already exists (it starts with v=spf1), edit it to include the new provider instead of adding a second. Two SPF records make SPF fail for both.
  • Change MX last. Add SPF, DKIM and DMARC first, move your old mail, then switch the MX records. See how to change MX records without losing mail.
  • Copy names exactly. Hosts add your domain to the name for you: enter _dmarc, not _dmarc.yourcompany.in, unless the host asks for the full name.

Questions people ask

Where is DNS management in GoDaddy?

In your Domain Portfolio: select the domain, then DNS. If the domain uses another company’s nameservers (for example Cloudflare), its records must be changed there instead.

Should I delete GoDaddy’s existing MX records?

Only when you switch email providers, and only after your new mailboxes are ready and old mail is moved. Records left from the old provider would send some mail there.

How long until the records work?

GoDaddy says usually within an hour, up to 48 hours at most. Our free email domain checker shows when they are visible.
