These are GINbox’s settings. With another provider, the steps are the same but the server names come from that provider. If your mailbox has two-step sign-in, make an app password first: in GINbox webmail, open Settings → App passwords, name it “iPhone”, and use that instead of your normal password.

Step by step

  1. Open Settings, then Apps → Mail → Mail Accounts. (On iOS 17 and earlier: Settings → Mail → Accounts.)
  2. Tap Add Account → Other → Add Mail Account.
  3. Enter your name as people should see it, your full email address, your password, and a description such as “Work”. Tap Next.
  4. Choose IMAP at the top.
  5. Under Incoming Mail Server: Host Name mail.ginbox.net, User Name your full email address, and the password.
  6. Under Outgoing Mail Server: Host Name mail.ginbox.net, User Name your full email address, and the same password. (The iPhone calls these optional; fill them in anyway.)
  7. Tap Next. The iPhone checks the account; then leave Mail switched on and tap Save.
  8. Open the Mail app: your business inbox appears under Mailboxes, and you can choose it as the “From” address when writing.

Make it work well

  • Sent mail in one place: in the account’s Advanced settings, set the Sent mailbox to the server’s Sent folder, so messages you send from the phone also show in webmail and on your computer.
  • Signature: Settings → Apps → Mail → Signature. Choose “Per Account” to give the business address its own.
  • Calendar and contacts: add them in one step from GINbox webmail (Settings → Add to iPhone, iPad or Mac).

Questions people ask

Should I choose IMAP or POP on the iPhone?

IMAP. It keeps your mail on the server, so the iPhone, your computer and webmail all show the same folders, read status and sent mail. POP downloads mail to one device and is rarely what a business needs.

The iPhone says “Cannot verify account”. What now?

Check the password first; if two-step sign-in is on for your mailbox, use an app password instead of your normal one. Then check that both the incoming and outgoing host names are mail.ginbox.net and that the user name is your full email address.

Can I add my business calendar and contacts too?

Yes. In GINbox webmail, open Settings and choose Add to iPhone, iPad or Mac: one download adds your GINbox calendar and contacts to the phone’s own Calendar and Contacts apps.

Can I use the Gmail or Outlook app on the iPhone instead?

Yes. Both can add an IMAP account with the same settings. The built-in Mail app is the simplest and works well with your business address.

Do I need to do anything when I change my password?

Yes. The phone will ask for the new password the next time it checks mail; if it does not, go to the account in Settings → Apps → Mail → Mail Accounts and enter it there.
